Article on Robert Scoble in new Blogger and Podcaster Magazine
Robert Scoble is a cool guy — and his wife Maryam is as nice as they come. I’ve really enjoyed getting to know Robert personally through my working with PodTech.net. Last week it was interesting to see the crowd that hung out at Web 2.0 conference to meet him after his session on social media. Back in March, Rocky Mountain Voices sponsored Robert as a guest for a meet-up event. Robert’s topic was Living in a Google World (see the video of the event here).
Robert just made the cover story for the new Blogger and Podcaster magazine. I thought this article was cool as it chronicles Robert’s work experience and connections with the right people that lead him to the blogger A-List. In the article, Robert is the first to recognize that to join the A-List, all you have to do is write good content and get readers.
Robert works hard. not many — if any at al l– can compete with the content Robert’s collecting and producing right now. Just see the number of video’s he’s delivering as part of the Scoble Show. I know how hard this is with my work at Rocky Mountain Voices. He deserves the credit.

Made the v100 List for 2007
vSpring Capital announced the 2007 class of the vSpring Capital Top 100 Venture Entrepreneurs,
also known as the v|100. I made the list this year. And since it’s sorted by first name, you can find my name in the “Bs” this year.
Honored to make the list. Even more excited to rub shoulders with Utah’s most recognized entrepreneurial leaders. I’ve talked with Scott Lemon and Cydni Tetro about their experience and it sounds cool.
Enough said. What to see who else made this list? See the press release at http://vspring.com/press/2007-04-16-v100.htm.
Brad at TaylorMade

I spent the day at TaylorMade Golf in Carlsbad, CA. Great place and smart people working the product machinery there at TaylorMade.
I interviewed Sean Toulon, EVP of Product and Brand Creation, and Benoit Vincent, Chief Technical Officer for a story I’m doing over at Rocky Mountain Voices. Sean gets to interact with tour players to validate product design and ideas. He is one of the key guys (if not the key guy) responsible for creating the single driver head and customizing for each player with the Moveable Weight Technology (MWT). Benoit is the engineering guy. His background in aerospace design is coming to use with the new materials and manufacturing processes to create golf clubs and balls on computers first and then prototype second.
Palm announcement that they’re cooking their own Linux OS
Interesting and I’ll have to put this in the “I’ll believe it when I see it” pile. But Paul Miller over at Engadget is reporting that Palm’s Ed Colligan spilled the future on an Open Source Linux OS for Palm devices. This is a NOT BE LICENSED operating system, but instead will stay in-house on Palm hardware devices.
Good. It’s about time someone got smart. Now get it on a phone that isn’t the size of brick and release by May 30th, two weeks before the Apple iPhone.
My wife and I are fully Apple converts. I need Apple integration. I was sad to leave my Treo legacy (180, 270, 600, 650) for a Nokia E62, then a BlackBerry Pearl 8100. I refuse to use Microsoft OS on a Treo (or any other phone). I must have support for Mac sync (okay, so I’m willing to leave on the bleeding edge to get my BlackBerry to sync w/ my Mac). My wife is anxious and has already put her money aside for the Apple iPhone as she’s had it trying to get her phone to work with iCal and Contacts and such. The “reality” of her high-quality iPod sync today leads her to believe the iPhone will be better than other solutions.
Is it too late? Maybe. But then again, I just don’t see the revolutionary “cool” devices coming that meet my personal gadget high-brow criteria.
My “town” to finally get a store
Cedar Hills Utah is filled with interesting people. The old-timers are so unbelievably conservative they don’t want any stores. No they would rather pay taxes to high heaven and drive 7 miles to get gas or a loaf of bread.
Well the waiting is over. Looks like we’ll finally get a Wal-Mart. Sure there are lots of issues with Wal-Mart’s recent retail practice and the death of small town, local business owners. But we need something, someplace that can sell a gallon of milk.
Death in the family–MacBook Pro Gen1
I’ll keep this short to remove the emotion and simply state the facts.
- I have a cough.
- Went to bed with a glass of water by my bedside.
- Struggled to find alarm the next morning, knocking my water glass over.
- Had my MacBook Pro Gen1 Core Duo machine with the back / rear on edge.
- Water spilled straight into the industrial design for the cooling.
- DEAD… Level 4 Logic board replacement required. 7-10 days to repair. Estimated at $1,300.
I am now using a new 15″ MacBook Pro Core 2 Duo to write this. Trying to decide how to sell the parts to maximize the value of the old machine.
A Favorite Podcast: Chris R. Johnson from Univ of Utah
I was able to talk with Chris R. Johnson, the director of the Scientific Computing and Imaging Institute at the University of Utah. Cool guy. I couldn’t help think that if I could relive my career, I’d want to work on a team with Chris to find cool solutions to medical issues with computers.
I first met Chris when he asked the question of Steve Ballmer at the Utah Information Technology Association Hall of Fame award for Kim Kajiya: How are you working with government to increase the number of students in science and engineering programs.
Well, I’m putting a plug in for anyone interested in attending the University of Utah where they can use computer imaging to solve big and real-world problems in medicine and science. I’d totally dig it if I were in a point where I could restart my career and do some good for the world.

Deadbeat Dads on Pizza Boxes in Cincinatti
Just hear about this story. In Cincinnati, pizza deliver boxes are arriving with pictures of deadbeat dads, not the typical free large pizza with purchase coupon.
Interesting way to socialize the problem. One side of me loves this: find the guys that need to be responsible for their families. The other side: how would you feel if your friends saw your dad on their pizza box and razzed you on the school yard.
Interesting strategy. I think I’d support it as a way to get the fathers to beware and support their families.
Another day I wish I would have kept that WebEx stock
I was able to get some WebEx friends and family stock back at their IPO. I flipped it pretty quick and smiled all the way to the bank. Been a few times that I wished I had it still. Today’s announcement from Cisco is another day I wish I still had that stock. Oh well…
Listening to the game on a $2,750 radio
I’m frustrated that I couldn’t find the BYU vs. Wyoming basketball game on any of the 600 channels on local or cable TV. So what did I end up doing? Listened to the only radio I have in the house: MacBook Pro, 802.11g, iTunes, KSL streaming from Las Vegas.
Silly. I haven’t come very far from the old days when I just listened on a cheap AM radio tuned to 1160.
