In Rainbows: Great new addition to the Radiohead family

I’ve been listening to In Rainbows all day. Great new addition to the Radiohead collection. I’m always game for raw guitars — really like Bodysnatchers for this reason. Like mellowing out too — with Nude or All I Need. Good stuff.

I noticed the digital download is missing cover art. A blank black square on my iPod will NOT do. Did a search and found Hicksdesign (guys who created the Firefox application logo) has started a little design effort and others are pitching in their creative effort. Some good placeholders to choose from while we wait for the final.

Familiar with Wikipedia Edit Process?

I gotta get this changed. If anyone reading this has been through the process on Wikipedia, I’d love any insight in how I can change this entry: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brad_Baldwin.

Yankees Out …

It looks like I’ve got to find a new MLB team to cheer for through the test of the post season. My Yankees went down tonight to the Cleveland Indians. Maybe the Diamondbacks, an old favorite from my days in Scottsdale.

Bluehouse Skis Vidcast

This is one of my recent favorite vidcasts. This story features 3 young men working hard to launch a new ski company.

Bluehouse Skis with Bamboo Core

Today’s skis are a blend of high-tech construction and art. So to hear that Bluehouse Skis had implemented a ski core based on bamboo seemed a bit “old-fashioned” to say the least.

Adam Hepworth and Jared Richards determined their dream job would be to build and run a ski company. So the former college roomates, designed the new skis and incorporated bamboo inside. This is is all by design since bamboo used in our cores not only gives extra pop but allows the skis to take on many of the same stiffness and durability qualities of carbon fiber at a fraction of the cost. Additionally, the bamboo was lighter weight and gives backcountry skiers a wide ski for extreme powder but shaves off a pound and a half off their load. Bluehouse Skis are ideal for the A/T skier, a park crew taking it to the backcountry, or a novice skier who is looking for an exclusive ski to flaunt on the mountain.

Marketing and sales are online through the Bluehouse web site. The team is active with their blog and has already incorporated community feedback in their latest skis.

Two days until In Rainbows

Can hardly wait. Looking forward to Thom Yorke and the boys’ latest efforts.

After seeing all the extra goodies you get in the discbox set, I broke down and spent the £40.00 ($81.00 US).

Nineteen Years…Wow, That was Fast!

Today marks 19 years of marriage with my great wife. For most, it would be hard to imagine putting up with me for 19 years. Amy is amazing for that alone. But she is so much more.

Creative. Fun. Smart. Well read. Good mother. Good interior design. Amazing cleaner and home maker (sorry to have to admit this Amy). Thanks for all your patience!

WSJ Blog Post w/ Healthcare Comments

The WSJ Blog The Juggle asked the question of readers, “Does Healthcare Insurance Drive Your Job Choices?” Very interesting collection of responses. Most families are facing issues with healthcare costs, insurance premiums, and the constant uncertainty and change both present.

Ford estimates its change for salaried retirees will save the auto maker about $80 million annually, and even more in future accounting liabilities on its balance sheet. In 2006, Ford spent $1.8 billion on retiree health care for hourly and salaried workers, more than half its total $3.1 billion health-care tab. Ford has estimated its U.S. health-care costs will increase 6% this year and could level off to 5% growth by 2011 with some of the changes it is making now. My wife and I choose to keep my wife at home with our growing family. This choice comes with some consequences. Self employment has increased the complexity of this choice as the availability and options for individual plans is more limited.

Is Google the Best Search Engine?

Today Hitwise reported that Google sucked up 63.98 percent of the August 2007 search traffic. Wow.

I confess, I’m part of the statistic. Google is plugged into my Firefox, Safari, and Camino browsers on my laptop. Google Mobile is my default home page on my BlackBerry browser. I tend to ask a lot of Google on a daily basis.

Just tonight I thought of how I miss the Google from the year 2000. It was great. Sure not all the same amount of pages were indexed, but I could get answers quickly and accurately, usually within the first 10 hits.

Today’s Google is about gaming. Better rankings. Organic search marketing. Blah, blah, blah. My query tonight: “mileage from cedar hills utah to clearfield utah“. I was hoping to find out how far I’d driven today. Instead, I learned of a drug rehab center in Cedar Hills, links to massage therapists and florists in Cedar Hills, and how to search for a home. Not exactly what I wanted to find.

I’m ready to get off the Google highway and try something new. I see that Ask.com (the fourth place engine with 3.49 percent) paid to place a link on the page that offers “mileage” specific search results. Maybe I should try Ask.com for a while.

Any suggestions?
