Running Windows on my Mac — Thanks Parallels!

Is work “work” when it’s fun? Three words: Parallels is amazing.
Tonight I configured Parallels so I can launch and run Windows on my Mac. Have I said “amazing” yet?
It was super cool to watch the install process in a “window” on my Mac. And then when I heard the famous Windows first-launch start up sound [...]

Facebook takes $25MM … not up for sale

According to Silcon Beat, Facebook isn’t looking for suitors, but instead took $25MM in cash from Greylock Partners, Meritech, Accel Partners, and Peter Thiel, a former chief exec from PayPal. The article reports that David Sze from Greylock said, “is a ‘winner-circle’ company.” Ya…like you wouldn’t say that after dumping cash into Facebook.
I’d agree with [...]

Parallels to the rescue

I’m one step closer to living entirely off my MacBook. I’d read about Parallels before and became more interested when BootCamp appeared on the scene. Scott Lemon has an inside contact at Apple who said the Parallels was the real deal and was awesome. So with this recommendation, I’ve moved forward. Downloaded the beta 4. [...]

WSJ article on Facebook value and potential sale

Looks like Facebook has 100 employess. Bigger than I thought, but still a very small group for a $750M+ acquisition target.
Today’s Wall Street Journal reports that Accel, the VC that placed ~$13M in Facebok thinks there’s “the potential to be worth more than $2 billion, based on economic fundamentals and the value of its [...]

Got Entourage to sync to my corp Exchange Server

I finally connected my MacBook up to our company’s Exchange Server. I found adding Mail accounts to Entourage to be a great experience. I loved how easy it was to connect my Yahoo mail account — just added my email address and Entourage took care of the rest. Exchange was a bit more work, but [...]

$2B for a virtual community of students

The Facebook is a babe in terms of years in business. But man have they cranked up the valuation. Turning down $750M is a big pass, but pocketing an extra $1.25B would be a nice bonus if Steve Rosenbush at BusinessWeek is correct.
I thought Facebook was cool when I first saw it. I was able [...]

When does a dog become too old to learn new tricks?

It’s just a few short months before my 40th birthday. I like to think I’m still hip and young. I’ve tried to keep up on trends. Try new music. Try to be the first to find and try new things. However, the fact remains the same: I’m on unavoidable collision with a birthday.
In my professional [...]

Google Calendar — CL2 — global calendar and event sharing

Reading the post today about the forthcoming Google Calendar — or CL2 as its being called — on TechCrunch, was like a flashback to my first time using the SalesLogix calendar, only better.
I spent 4+ years at SalesLogix, now a division of Best Software. I joined as director of product marketing and worked under Pat [...]

Sahar talking about Blackboard Backpack

Photo_030206_001Originally uploaded by bdb2005.
Last week at BbWorld, Sahar Javadi and I spent time talking about and demonstrating a new product called Blackboard Backpack. Agilix, my employer, has worked closely with Blackboard to develop the Backpack application.
Backpack works on a student’s laptop computer and helps them download and manage all the information professors add to the [...]

Off to BbWorld’06 — Blackboard user conference in San Diego

I will be traveling this week at the Blackboard annual user conference. I’m sure there will be lots to learn. WebCT and Blackboard merger received approval from the SEC, so I’m sure that there will be lots of discussion around that. I wouldn’t be a bit surprised to hear a few more news bites that [...]
