Not at Apple store waiting for an iPhone
Amy’s a faithful iCal and Address Book and iPhoto user on her Mac. She’s been syncing and using her iPod for contacts and calendar and photo items for some time now…. Here’s what’s shown. Also got the update notice for iTunes 7.3 which includes a preference for an iPhone.
Palm announcement that they’re cooking their own Linux OS
Now get it on a phone that isn’t the size of brick and release by May 30th, two weeks before the Apple iPhone…. My wife is anxious and has already put her money aside for the Apple iPhone as she’s had it trying to get her phone to work with iCal and Contacts and such. The “reality” of her high-quality iPod sync today leads her to believe the iPhone will be better than other solutions. Is it too late?
Death in the family–MacBook Pro Gen1
I’ll keep this short to remove the emotion and simply state the facts. I have a cough.Went to bed with a glass of water by my bedside.Struggled to find alarm the next morning, knocking my water glass over.Had my MacBook Pro Gen1 Core Duo machine with the back / rear on edge.Water spilled straight into the industrial design for the cooling.DEAD…… Trying to decide how to sell the parts to maximize the value of the old machine.
Palm hires Paul Mercer, a former Apple computer engineer
Now that they jumped on the Windows Mobile bandwagon while handing their own OS, I’m not sure they have anything more than a legacy brand name without a core nerve center to drive their business. HTC has picked up a huge hunk of what Palm could have been by putting commodity OSs on relatively “okay” devices targeted at email and communicator-centric business users…. Can they design something that has the mass appeal and sexy exterior of Apple’s iPhone — that’s sold itselft on its form, but I still think the function will have to sell itself to the masses.
Q3 Produces Flat PC Shipments in U.S.
IDC said that PC shipments in the U.S. were flat in the third quarter, following more than 5 percent growth rate for the first half of 2006 and a 10 percent rate for the years spanning 2003 to 2005.Not surprising given Intel’s warnings to the street…. Given the strong gains Apple made during the back-to-school season, I’m looking forward to seeing the final result.
Cisco get the iPhone before Apple
And reading the news today about Cisco launching their own iPhone (apparently, they’ve owned the trademark since 1996 — smart move by someone at Cisco or one of their many acquisitions), but this one doesn’t require a carrier. The Cisco iPhone will on WiFi. Oh how I can’t wait ’til we have an option for picking devices based on an open network protocol like WiFi.
More iPhone smack
Rumors are turning into buzz. It’s now the marketing machine starting it’s engines to create mass anticipation and frenzy.
Itty Bitty iPod Shuffle — so cool
I needed a spare MacBook Pro battery for my trip to PodCamp West this week, so I visited the Apple Store in The Gateway…. The postage-stamp-sized MP3 player. It’s still in the case.
Do you dislike the “Mac” guy in Apple’s ads?
While I’m not fully convinced that the ads connect better for the Windows computer (John Hodgman) than the Mac (Long), calling the Mac a “smug little twit” certainly feels a little over the top…. Does catering to user needs with a start-to-finish software and hardware solution make him smug?
Mac Mini Tablet PC Mod
Peter Green’s mod on the Mac Mini is quite a feat…. The challenge to get user, developer, and retail adoption is enough to make me tired.
